The Grand Portage Reservation is at the northeastern tip of Minnesota. The Air Quality Program has many ongoing projects in order to maintain healthy indoor and outdoor air. These projects include monitoring for regional haze and particulate matter, indoor air quality, invasive plant removal, public outreach, environmental education, alternative energy, and climate change.

Bio

So, you are probably wondering who I am. I thought I would tell you a little bit about myself.

I grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. I spent my childhood outdoors, and our family trips usually involved camping. My favorite thing to do was to head to the beach and go surfing. I have always enjoyed being outside, and since I was little, I took a natural interest in biology and science.

I went to school in Austin, Tx, and I obtained a BS in Biology. My last summer in school, I was offered an internship with the Forest Service in Tofte, MN. Two years ago I moved here knowing nothing about cold weather or Minnesota. (I brought all my Texas winter clothes and wore them all summer long!) Well, it did not to take long for me to fall in love with the area or fall in love with a Minnesotan. I decided to stay and brave the winter, and I have never looked back.

Over the last year my partner and I have been building a house in the woods, near East CO Rd 14. In April we moved in, and I have been enjoying a life of beautiful surroundings and quiet, and experiencing the joys of no utilities or water. I was then lucky enough to get this job as Grand Portage's Air Quality Specialist, and I could not be more excited to be here. I hope to learn a lot about air quality in order to help maintain Grand Portage's excellent air and make sure that it stays that way for the future generations. I hope to see you around. Come by my office at Trust Lands anytime. I am really enjoying meeting so many people here in Grand Portage.
